Abstract

This study aimed to verify the affordances, the motor performance, the level of trunk control,
and the influence between them in infants who are in the emergence of sitting. Three healthy
infants of both sexes, who were in the emergence of sitting ability participated in this study.
The Brazilian version of Affordances in the Home Environment for Motor Development-Infant
Scale (AHEMD-IS) questionnaire assessed the affordances in which the infants were exposed.
Infant Motor Profile (IMP) assessed the motor performance, and the Segmental Assessment of
Trunk Control (SATCo) the trunk control of the infants. The infants obtained approximately 20
points in the AHEMD-IS questionnaire, percentile 80 for a total score of IMP, and static trunk
control in low thoracic, active in medium thoracic, and reactive in high thoracic levels verified
by SATCo. It is proposed as an influence of the environment on motor performance and postural
control of infants, therefore the stimulation and early intervention are essential in the first
months of life.
