AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION: A BIBLIOGRAPHIC REVIEW ABOUT CLIMATE CHANGE AND PRODUCTIVITY OF GRANITER PLANTS IN BRAZIL

Authors

Abstract

Climate is the main environmental factor associated with the variability of world agricultural productivity, especially for rainfed systems, which occupy large areas producing grain and other agricultural products in Brazil. If the predicted climate change scenario is confirmed in the future, world agricultural production will be affected as crops are sensitive to different air temperatures and atmospheric CO2 levels. Given this, the objective of this literature review was to highlight the main, and still little known, impacts caused by climate change on agriculture, especially for the productivity of grain plants. The increase of 0.3 °C until the year 2100 had affected the main cultivated grain plants in the country, causing drastic reductions in corn, soybean and bean production, resulting in losses of 97.2%, 81.2% and 71, 9% for each culture respectively. Thus, it is relatively simple to understand that climate change can impact grain production in different ways around the world, as it is associated with partial pressure of atmospheric CO2, local temperature and the incidence of pests and diseases, factors responsible for drastic reductions of yield in grain crops
