THE CULTIVATION OF PASSION FRUIT IN THE CENTER-WEST OF BRAZIL
Abstract
Passion fruit is a tropical plant, cultivated throughout Brazil, with the northeast region standing out in planted area and production, while the Midwest region invests in research and development of technologies which has enabled increased productivity per hectare. The present work aimed to perform a bibliographical research on passion fruit cultivation with emphasis on the Midwest region. A search was made on academic google and on books and materials published by reference research groups on passion fruit cultivation, as well as consulting websites of government agencies. There was an increase in planted area for the northeast and southeast region in the 2018 crop, while the northern, southern and midwest regions reduced in planted area and increased average yield, with the Federal District obtaining average yield of 27 t ha-1, well above the national average. In short, the Midwest region stands out in relation to other Brazilian regions, in the development of new technologies that enable the production of passion fruit in Brazil.
